ステファン・フォスター「草競馬」の思い出

　私が小学校の一年生の時だった。１９６０年（昭和三十五年）の事だ。私は広島県呉市の小学校に通っていた。
戦争から十五年経って日本とアメリカの友好を願っての記念式典があった。戦争から十五年経っていたが、まだ人々の心に戦争の傷は深く残っていた。行事は盛り上がらない。
　日本側の進行係りで私の知り合いのおじさんが子供会の役員に、
「何か子供達でやってくれないか」
　と言って来た。
私はその時たまたまハーモニカを持っていた。六年生が私に何かハーモニカで吹いてくれないかと言ってきた。
私が、
「オースザンナ、草競馬」
　を吹くと、それまでの雰囲気が嘘のように盛り上がったのだった。両国の年配の人が喜んでくれたのが忘れられない。
あの時の事は昨日の事の様に思い出す。五十年以上前の事だが。私の一つ前のブログに動画を入れているので聞いていただきたい。

Just I was a 7-year-old boy, more than 50 years ago, in 1960, I played this song, "Japan and U.S. friendship day, Kure City Hiroshima prefecture Japan.
At that time people of both countries have something in their hearts Even though 15 years passed after Word War 2.
After I played this song, people gave me big hands to me.
I remember the day as yesterday.
